Another testing day for Mascalzone Latino
It was just another day of fabulous sailing in Valencia today, second day of the RC44 Valencia Cup, bringing to a conclusion the match racing event.
Wind conditions were again spectacular, with a breeze that kicked in at 12 knots when the first starting gun was fired, building up to a strong 20 knots in the afternoon.
Today Mascalzone Latino Audi Team, raced 4 matches in order to conclude the round robin. In the first two races, when the breeze was still in the mid teens, Vincenzo Onorato’s team, despite not having scored a point, showed an increased aggressiveness in the prestarts and a clear improvement in maneuvers.
When the breeze strengthened over 15-16 knots the difference from such high-caliber opponents as Paul Cayard e Cameron Appleton was quite evident.
Mascalzone Latino suffered four losses in today’s four races, concluding the round robin with just one point in the pocket, thanks to yesterday’s victory against the Austrian team.
Team Aqua with Cameron Appelton at the helm takes the round robin by scoring nine victories while suffering just one loss. Artemis with Terry Hutchinson at the helm follows with eight wins and two losses while BMW ORACLE Racing, skippered by Russell Coutts, closes the podium.
Tomorrow the schedule calls for the practice fleet races and the starting signal will be given at 1pm. Vincenzo Onorato will take the helm of Mascalzone Latino.
